American Horror Story season 13: release date, episode schedule and cast
Ryan Murphy has been calling it the Avengers season, which is a big claim for a show that once did a hotel run by a vampire countess. American Horror Story returns in September for a thirteenth season built around the number thirteen itself, and it is pulling cast back from across the entire anthology.
Here is what has actually been confirmed: the date, the episode count, the unusual release pattern, and who is coming back.
When does American Horror Story season 13 come out?
Season 13 premieres on Thursday 24 September 2026 on FX in the US, with episodes streaming on Hulu the same day. Internationally the season goes to Disney+.
FX titles usually reach Disney+ outside the US the day after the American broadcast, which would put the UK premiere on Friday 25 September. Disney has not confirmed a separate UK date, so treat the Friday as the expected pattern rather than a promise.
The episode schedule
This is the part worth paying attention to, because AHS is not doing its usual one a week. There are 13 episodes, and the release is front loaded: three episodes in each of the first two weeks, then two a week until the finale.
| Date | Episodes |
|---|---|
| Thursday 24 September | 1, 2, 3 |
| Thursday 1 October | 4, 5, 6 |
| Thursday 8 October | 7, 8 |
| Thursday 15 October | 9, 10 |
| Thursday 22 October | 11, 12 |
| Thursday 29 October | 13 (finale) |
Six episodes inside the first eight days is a lot of AHS to absorb, and the finale lands on the Thursday before Halloween. That timing is not an accident.
Who is in the cast?
Murphy has described the season as a crossover uniting all the previous ones, and the casting reflects it. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy, Jamie Brewer, John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari, Mat Fraser and Jessica Lange are all returning.
Several are playing multiple characters. Paulson is reported to be taking on six or seven roles across the season, Peters five and Lange four, which is extreme even by this show’s standards.
New additions include John Waters, Cara Delevingne, Charlie Carver and Madelaine Petsch.
The strongest thread runs back to Coven. Paulson returns as Cordelia Goode and Roberts as Madison Montgomery, with Lange back as Murder House’s Constance Langdon. It is not a straight Coven sequel, but that is the season doing most of the connective work.
What is the theme?
The number thirteen. Superstition, bad luck, and the way horror has used the number for a century. That is a looser premise than Asylum or 1984, which suits a season whose actual job is to tie a decade and a half of separate stories together.
FX confirmed the premiere date at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and the announcement was covered in detail by Variety.
Do not lose track of a 13 episode season
A schedule that shifts from three episodes a week to two, across six weeks, on a platform that may drop it a day later in the UK, is exactly the kind of run people fall behind on. Two weeks in you are three episodes down and every horror account you follow is posting about episode six.
Follow American Horror Story in TrackShows, turn on notifications, and you get a push when each batch lands. Never anything promotional. The features page covers what else the app tracks, and our guide to getting notified when new episodes air runs through the alternatives if you want to compare.
If you are already following Slow Horses season 6, your October is now fairly full: Wednesdays in Slough House, Thursdays in whatever Murphy has built this time.
