The Library now shows everything you follow
Three days after the Library tab shipped, an email arrived that was hard to argue with.
Library should show all shows. Right now Library seems to show only completed shows, it should also show ongoing ones. There should be a way to see my complete library.
He was right. We had built a tab called Library that was really an archive: finished shows and watched movies, and nothing else. Everything you were actually in the middle of lived on the On Next tab. Your collection was split across two screens with no screen showing all of it.
TrackShows 1.12.0 fixes that.
Four sections, one tab
The Library now lists everything you follow, in four sections:
Watching is every show you follow with something still to watch, alphabetical, with the next episode as the state line. If that episode has not aired yet, the line tells you when it lands instead.
Completed shows is unchanged: shows where you have watched all there is, labelled Ended, Cancelled or Returning series.
Watchlist is the movies you follow but have not watched.
Watched movies is your movie history, with the date you watched each one.
That is the whole collection, on one screen, in one scroll.
Filters, not hiding places
A library grows. Follow forty shows and a single list gets long, so there are filter chips across the top: All, Watching, Completed, Movies.
All is the default, and it does what it says: every section, stacked, in one continuous scroll. The other chips narrow the view when you are looking for something specific. Nothing is ever hidden behind a chip you have to find first, which was the whole complaint in the first place.
Long press now works across the lot too. Selecting shows for bulk unfollowing used to cover only completed shows; it now reaches shows you are watching and movies on your watchlist.
So what is On Next for?
The two tabs answer different questions.
On Next answers “what do I watch tonight”. It works at episode level: the next episode of each show, ready to tick off, plus what is coming and your movie watchlist. It only lists what you can act on.
Library answers “what am I tracking”. It works at show level: one row per title, the state it is in, and a tap through to its page.
The same show appears on both, and that is deliberate. On On Next it is “S3E4, tonight”. In the Library it is “The Bear, watching”. Different questions, different answers.
Keep them coming
This change went from an email to shipped code in one sitting, which is the advantage of a small app with no roadmap to defend. If something about TrackShows annoys you, Contact and feedback on your Profile goes straight to a real person, and the feature request board next to it is where ideas get voted on.
It is live in the web app now, and the Android update is in review. The full history is on the changelog.
