Pride and Prejudice on Netflix: release date, cast and what is confirmed
Netflix is putting a six-part Jane Austen adaptation out three weeks before Christmas, which is about as confident a piece of scheduling as the service does. Pride and Prejudice premieres on Thursday 3 December 2026.
The date comes from Netflix’s own Tudum announcement, which also carries the full cast and the roles. Dolly Alderton wrote it, Euros Lyn directed it, and Netflix describes it in its own words as “a new six-part series that will premiere Dec. 3”.
Here is what is settled, and the one thing that is not.
When does Pride and Prejudice come out on Netflix?
Thursday 3 December 2026. Netflix states the date twice in its announcement and signs off with “Call on Pride and Prejudice on Dec. 3”, so this is firm rather than a projection. Alderton announced it in person at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath.
The episode count is also settled. Netflix calls it a six-part series, so six episodes, and it is a limited series rather than a returning one.
What Netflix has not said is the release shape. There is no statement about whether all six arrive on 3 December or roll out weekly, and Netflix has handled recent prestige drama both ways. Its own page says nothing either direction. We will update this when it does.
The cast
Netflix has published the full list with roles, which is unusual this far out and useful, because the supporting casting is where this adaptation makes its argument.
At Longbourn
| Actor | Role |
|---|---|
| Emma Corrin | Elizabeth Bennet |
| Olivia Colman | Mrs Bennet |
| Rufus Sewell | Mr Bennet |
| Freya Mavor | Jane Bennet |
| Rhea Norwood | Lydia Bennet |
| Hopey Parish | Mary Bennet |
| Hollie Avery | Kitty Bennet |
Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery are both making their screen debuts, per Netflix. Casting two unknowns as Mary and Kitty alongside Colman and Sewell is a choice, and a defensible one: the younger Bennet sisters are usually played as background texture, and faces nobody recognises make that easier.
The gentlemen and the rest of Hertfordshire
| Actor | Role |
|---|---|
| Jack Lowden | Mr Darcy |
| Daryl McCormack | Mr Bingley |
| Louis Partridge | Mr Wickham |
| Jamie Demetriou | Mr Collins |
| Siena Kelly | Caroline Bingley |
| Fiona Shaw | Lady Catherine de Bourgh |
| Isabella Sermon | Georgiana Darcy |
| Anjana Vasan | Mrs Gardiner |
| Sebastian Armesto | Mr Gardiner |
| Rosie Cavaliero | Lady Lucas |
| Justin Edwards | Sir William Lucas |
| Saffron Coomber | Mrs Hurst |
| James Dryden | Mr Hurst |
| James Northcote | Colonel Forster |
| Eloise Webb | Harriet Forster |
Two bits of casting are doing something specific. Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins moves the character from pompous to genuinely funny, which the book supports and most adaptations flinch from. And Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh is the sort of appointment that tells you how much Netflix is spending.
Who made it
Alderton and Lyn executive produce alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, with Lisa Osborne producing. Corrin takes an executive producer credit too, their first.
Lookout Point is the relevant name there. It is the BBC Studios label behind Gentleman Jack, Les Miserables and the 2016 War and Peace, so this is a company with a specific house style for prestige period drama, and Lyn arrives from Heartstopper rather than from costume work. That combination suggests something less reverent than the 1995 BBC version and less stylised than the 2005 film, though that is a read on the personnel rather than anything Netflix has claimed.
What it is about
Netflix’s own synopsis, in short: when wealthy bachelors arrive in the neighbourhood, the five Bennet sisters have to navigate love, family and society’s expectations. Jane falls for Mr Bingley, Elizabeth clashes with his proud friend Mr Darcy, and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider what she thinks she knows.
So, the plot of Pride and Prejudice. Six hours of it, which is more room than the 2005 film had and less than the 1995 serial took.
Track it
Add Pride and Prejudice to TrackShows and you will know when it lands without having to remember the date. If you want the notification rather than the calendar entry, get notified when new episodes air explains how the alerts work, and how to track TV shows covers the basics if you are new to it.
For the rest of the autumn and winter slate, we also have release dates for Rings of Power season 3, Black Doves season 2 and Slow Horses season 6.
The short version
Six episodes, Thursday 3 December 2026, Netflix. Emma Corrin as Elizabeth, Jack Lowden as Darcy, Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, written by Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn.
The only open question is whether you get all six at once. Netflix has not said, and until it does, anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.
