Blade Runner 2099: release date, episode count and what is confirmed

Fifty years after Blade Runner 2049, and thirty-four years after the film that 2049 was a sequel to, the franchise finally arrives as a television series. Prime Video has the date, the episode count and the release shape all confirmed, which is more than most November titles can say.

Here is what has actually been announced.

When does Blade Runner 2099 come out?

All eight episodes premiere on Wednesday 25 November 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. That is stated in Amazon’s own announcement, and the important half of it is the word “all”.

There is no weekly rollout. No three episode opening, no Wednesday appointment through December. The entire limited series lands at once.

Why the full drop matters more than usual

A November binge release behaves differently from a weekly show, and it is worth thinking about before the day rather than after.

A weekly series keeps its own place in your week. You know it is Wednesday, you know there is an episode, and the schedule does the remembering for you.

An eight episode drop in the last week of November does not. It arrives into the busiest fortnight of the streaming year, two days before the US Thanksgiving weekend, and it competes with everything else you were already part way through. The common failure is not missing the premiere. It is watching three episodes on the Wednesday, losing a fortnight to December, and never establishing where you got to.

That is the specific problem a tracker solves, and it is a different problem from the one a weekly show creates.

What is confirmed

The date and the shape. Eight episodes, all on 25 November 2026, Prime Video exclusive.

The setting. Fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. That places it in 2099, as the title suggests, and makes it the furthest forward the franchise has gone.

The premise. Amazon’s description follows Cora, who takes on one last identity as a Blade Runner, and Olwen, a Replicant days from dying. The two pursue a fugitive hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city.

The cast. Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead, with Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben also starring. Recurring guest stars include Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi.

Who made it. Silka Luisa, of Shining Girls, is showrunner. Ridley Scott, who directed the original film, is an executive producer.

It is a limited series. Amazon has described it as such from the outset, which sets expectations differently from an ongoing show. Whether that holds if it performs is a separate question, and not one anybody has answered.

What has not been confirmed

Worth separating, because a lot of coverage will blur it.

If you see any of those four reported as fact between now and November, treat it as a report rather than an announcement until Prime Video says so.

Where to watch it

Prime Video, exclusively. Included with an Amazon Prime membership or available as a standalone subscription, and it runs on phones, tablets, smart TVs, streaming sticks, consoles and any browser.

The two films are not consistently on Prime Video in every territory, so if you are planning a rewatch first, check before you assume. The series is set far enough after 2049 that Amazon has not presented it as requiring one.

November is going to be crowded

This lands in an unusually busy stretch, and the shapes are all different, which is the part that catches people out.

Title Date Shape
Lupin part 4 23 October All at once
The Rings of Power season 3 11 November Weekly, reportedly
Percy Jackson season 3 20 November Disney+
Blade Runner 2099 25 November All eight at once

Two full drops and two staggered runs inside five weeks. A full drop needs you to remember where you stopped; a weekly run needs you to remember it exists at all.

Follow Blade Runner 2099 in TrackShows, tick episodes off as you go, and the app always shows you the one you are actually up to, even if you start on the Wednesday and come back in January. For the weekly titles either side of it, switch on Episode alerts and you get a single push on air day, never marketing. There is more on the features page, and our guide to getting notified when new episodes air covers how that compares with relying on the streaming apps themselves.

When you finish the eighth episode it moves into your Completed section rather than sitting in your list forever, which for a limited series is exactly the right ending.
